US Airways this month made several management changes, including naming Rita Cuddihy to vice president of customer products and service planning, Michael Scheeringa to vice president of the Shuttle and MetroJet and Thomas A. Mutryn to senior vice president of finance and chief financial officer
Cuddihy, 44, will be responsible for product marketing programs, including frequent traveler programs and advertising, as well as service planning and consumer affairs. As president of the US Airways Shuttle since late 1997 (<I>BTN,</I> Jan. 12), when it was purchased by US Airways Group Inc., Cuddihy has been responsible for integrating the Shuttle's operations with those of the airline and implementing major service changes in the Northeast.
"Rita Cuddihy is one of our most talented executives and she has done a superb job in these all-important early months of melding the Shuttle with US Airways," said Chairman and CEO of US Airways Group Stephen Wolf in a press statement. "This experience, coupled with her previous work in marketing and advertising at the airline, makes her uniquely suited to take on this new challenge. Rita will be responsible for many facets of the airline's interface with its customers."
Prior to joining the US Airways Shuttle, Cuddihy was vice president of marketing and distribution planning at US Airways. She previously had served as vice president of planning and scheduling at Continental Airlines and vice president of marketing and planning at Continental Express.
Scheeringa, 30, will be responsible for the continuing evolution of the US Airways Shuttle, as well as the development of the company's MetroJet service.
"The superb start of MetroJet and US Airways' major improvement in on-time service are ample proof of Michael's leadership and team-building skills," Wolf said. "They demonstrate that he is the right person to shepherd the further development of these two very important parts of the US Airways system."
Before taking charge of MetroJet operations in June, Scheeringa headed the employee task force that planned the operation. He also has led other employee task forces, addressing such issues as on-time performance. Scheeringa joined US Airways in 1991 as director of strategic planning before being named director of international in March 1997. He previously worked in corporate planning at America West Airlines.
Mutryn joins US Airways from United Airlines, where he was vice president and treasurer for the past three years.
"Tom is a very talented airline executive who has extensive experience in the varied aspects of airline financial operations. He enjoys a high standing within the financial community and his considerable skills will serve US Airways well as it builds for the future," Wolf said.
Mutryn was responsible for United's overall corporate finance strategy, capital market and aircraft financing activities, insurance programs, financial risk management activities, credit administration, revenue accounting and cash management functions. He replaces Terry Hall, who US Airways said is leaving to pursue other interests.
