Delta Air Lines said it would cancel 275 flights through early Friday as it reinspects the 117 aircraft that comprise its MD-88 fleet. The carrier said the cancellations would total 3 percent of its worldwide schedule, but expects to resume normal operations on Friday.
"Delta expects inspections to be complete on approximately 70 percent of its MD-88 fleet by early evening, with normal operations planned by early Friday," Delta said in a statement today.
Delta in a statement said it is "voluntarily revalidating the full compliance of a prior Airworthiness Directive completed earlier this year." The inspections come amid a Federal Aviation Administration safety audit of domestic airline maintenance records, and follows similar inspection-caused cancellations by American Airlines and Southwest Airlines
(BTNonline, March 26).
