American Airlines
picked up a third route to China on Thursday when the Transportation Department
approved the carrier’s proposal to launch Los Angeles-Shanghai nonstops next
April 5.
The carrier plans a
daily service with 247-seat 777 aircraft.
American already
operates to Shanghai and Beijing from its Chicago hub, but in a recent
application to the DOT the carrier noted that no U.S. airline serves Shanghai
from Los Angeles.
China Eastern serves
that market nonstop and carries the AA code on some seats. United operates
nonstop to Shanghai from San Francisco.
