The U.S. Department of Transportation on March 27 tentatively sustained Delta Air Lines' right to serve Tokyo’s Haneda Airport from Seattle,

as long as the airline "maintains a year-round daily service in the market." American Airlines in January asked DOT for permission to operate daily nonstop service between Los Angeles International Airport and Tokyo's capacity-constrained Haneda Airport after Delta reduced Seattle-Haneda frequency. In the order, DOT tentatively selected AA "for backup authority for its proposed Los Angeles-Haneda services should Delta not meet the additional conditions and requirements."
