Scheduled global airline capacity in April increased 3 percent year over year, representing the 11th consecutive month of growth,
according to OAG data. Seat capacity growth for European and North American
markets "remains sluggish," according to OAG, while capacity for
Asian, Middle Eastern and Latin American markets in most cases grew in April by
mid-to-high single-digit percentages. Domestic and international capacity for North America "has been
effectively static since 2009," according to OAG, which expects
"further capacity cuts" resulting from American Airlines' bankruptcy
reorganization.
