American Airlines parent AMR Corp. reported a fourth-quarter net loss of nearly $1.1 billion,
dragged down by $768 million in bankruptcy restructuring charges and special items, according to its annual report. The company, which filed for Chapter 11 protection in late November, reported a consolidated full-year net loss of nearly $2 billion, compared with a $471 million net loss in 2010. Full-year 2011 passenger revenue increased from 2010 levels by $1.6 billion to $20.7 billion, largely through higher fares. For 2011, passenger yield—a representation of average fare per mile—increased by 6.2 percent year over year.
