Following on the heels of JetBlue's and United Airlines' decisions to increase checked-baggage fees, Delta Air Lines will do the same for tickets on domestic and select short-haul international routes purchased on or after April 8, the carrier confirmed Tuesday.
First- and second-checked bag fees will increase by $10 each to $45 and $55, respectively. A third checked bag now will cost $200, up from $150.
Delta in a statement said that "these updates are part of Delta's ongoing review of pricing across its business and reflect the impact of evolving global conditions and industry dynamics."
There are no changes for long-haul international routes, and Delta's complimentary bag benefits—for Delta SkyMiles Medallion members, customers traveling in First Class, Premium Select and Delta One, active-duty military customers and those with eligible co-branded Delta SkyMiles American Express cards—will remain unchanged, according to the carrier.
The last time several carriers increased their checked-bag fees was in early 2024.
