The July cancellation rate for U.S. carriers was 2.6 percent, down from the 2.9 percent reported a year prior, but up from the 1.8 percent reported in June, according to the latest U.S. Department of Transportation Air Travel Consumer Report.
U.S. carriers in July operated about 678,100 flights, up 3.2 percent year over year, and more than the nearly 662,300 flights operated in June 2025.
Those U.S. carriers with the lowest July cancellation rates included Allegiant Air (0.4 percent), Hawaiian Airlines (0.7 percent) and Southwest Airlines (1.3 percent).
The U.S. carriers with the highest cancellations rates in July included JetBlue (5 percent), American Airlines network (4 percent) and Frontier Airlines (2.9 percent). Networks include branded codeshare partners.
In July, U.S. airlines handled more than 43.5 million bags, down from the nearly 44.6 million handled in July 2024 but up from the more than 42.9 million handled in June 2025. The July mishandled baggage rate was 0.61 percent, up from the 0.58 percent reported a year prior and the 0.57 percent reported in June 2025.
DOT in July received nearly 11,000 submissions—complaints, inquiries and opinions—down from the nearly 17,600 received a year prior, but more than the 8,100 received in June.
U.S. airlines accounted for 80.4 percent of the July submissions, with foreign carriers at 17.1 percent and travel agents at 1.9 percent. Submissions for the 10 largest reporting U.S. carriers and their branded networks decreased by 42.2 percent year over year to nearly 8,600.
