The June cancellation rate for U.S. carriers was 1.8 percent, up from the 1.3 percent a year prior, and up from the 1.1 percent reported in May, according to the latest U.S. Department of Transportation Air Travel Consumer Report.
U.S. carriers in June operated nearly 662,300 flights, up about 3 percent year over year and more than the 660,000 flights operated in May 2025.
The U.S. carriers with the lowest June cancellation rates included Hawaiian Airlines (0.2 percent), Allegiant Air (0.4 percent) and Southwest Airlines (0.6 percent).
Those U.S. airlines with the highest June cancellation rates included American Airlines network (3.1 percent), Frontier Airlines (3.1 percent) and Delta Air Lines (2.1 percent). Networks include branded codeshare partners.
In June, U.S. airlines handled 42.9 million bags, down from the 44.6 million handled a year prior and from the 42.1 million handled in May. The June mishandled baggage rate was 0.57 percent, nearly even with the 0.58 percent reported in June 2024, but up from the 0.49 percent reported in May 2025.
DOT in June received more than 8,100 submissions—complaints, inquiries and opinions—down from the nearly 8,400 received a year earlier, but more than the nearly 6,600 reported in May.
U.S. airlines accounted for 77.9 percent of the June submissions, with foreign carriers at 19.3 percent and travel agencies at 2.2 percent. Submissions regarding the 10 largest reporting U.S. carriers and their branded networks decreased 2.5 percent year over year to more than 6,100.
