Breeze Airways has been certified by the U.S. Federal Aviation Administration as a U.S. "flag carrier," the airline announced Thursday, allowing federal government-funded travelers to use it under the terms of the Fly America Act.
The Fly America Act requires all air travel and cargo transportation services funded by the federal government to use a "U.S. flag" air carrier service. Dozens of U.S. passenger and cargo airlines have been certified as such.
The new certification means that federal government employees and their dependents along with consultants, contractors and grantees and other travelers whose travel is paid for by the U.S. federal government now can choose Breeze and receive reimbursement.
It is the first airline in more than 10 years to be named a flag carrier, according to Breeze.
