American Airlines plans to add eight flights to its schedule and remove seven long-haul routes, according to the carrier.
The airline will launch Dallas/Fort Worth-Auckland daily seasonal service from Oct. 29, 2022, to March 25, 2023, using a Boeing 787-9 aircraft. American served Auckland from Los Angeles until 2020. It also will resume Montevideo-Miami seasonal service, with three-times weekly flights between Oct. 30 and March 25, with an increase to daily service between Dec. 14 and Jan. 1, using a Boeing 787-8 aircraft.
The remaining six added routes are for New York pairings and are part of the airline's Northeast Alliance with JetBlue. They include year-round daily flights between JFK and Bermuda as well as JFK and Monterrey, Mexico, both beginning Nov. 3. The other four flights, from New York's LaGuardia Airport and also starting Nov. 3, include daily year-round service to Tulsa, Okla., and Little Rock, Ark., as well as seasonal service through April 3 to Key West, Fla., and Asheville, N.C., according to American.
The long-haul routes to be cut include two that were announced but never launched: Dallas-Tel Aviv and Seattle-Bangalore. American characterized demand for Tel Aviv flights as "soft," but the carrier will continue to serve the Israeli city from Miami and JFK. The Bangalore route will be paused until summer 2023, according to the carrier.
Three routes to be eliminated effective Nov. 3 are Dallas-Lima, and separate service from JFK-to the Colombian cities of Cali and Medellin, due to reduced demand. American also is delaying service between Dallas-Beijing and Seattle-Shanghai due to "foreign government regulations related to Covid-19." The carrier will continue to operate twice-weekly direct flights between Dallas and Shanghai, according to American.
