Alaska Airlines is eliminating most change fees, making the policy universal across the five largest U.S. carriers.
Alaska's policy covers all tickets except its lowest-level Saver fares, which currently also are covered by a change fee waiver through Dec. 31. The policy is similar to those announced by United Airlines on Sunday and by American Airlines and Delta Air Lines on Monday. Southwest Airlines, the fourth-largest airline in the United States in times of normal operations, already had a long-standing policy of no change fees.
The Big Three's no-change fee policy applies to their domestic networks—or, in the case of American's, for some short-haul international travel as well. Alaska's network largely is domestic outside of flights to Canada, Mexico and Costa Rica.
