Travel and expense management platform Emburse has achieved certification from the International Organization for Standardization and the International Electrotechnical Commission's standard for AI management, the company announced.
Emburse said it was "the first and only dedicated T&E platform" to achieve ISO/IEC 42001 certification, which was introduced in December 2023 as the first global AI management system standard. The certification demonstrates that the company's AI development met rigorous standards for security, compliance, accountability and risk management under an independent evaluation, the company said.
"As AI becomes embedded in travel and expense management, enterprise buyers need confidence that innovation is supported by strong governance and risk controls," IDC research director for financial applications Kevin Permenter said in a statement. "ISO/IEC 42001 certification helps demonstrate that AI capabilities are being developed and managed with the oversight, accountability, and rigor enterprises require."
Emburse last year launched its Emburse AI layer to support expense and inventory management and in the coming months will begin offering to clients its new AI-powered T&E experience. The certification demonstrates "a strong governance foundation" that gives "customers the confidence to adopt emerging AI capabilities as they evolve," Emburse chief technology officer Ken Ringdahl said in a statement.
