Three weeks after Doug Anderson joined
American Express Global Business Travel as CEO, the travel management company
has added one C-suite position and eliminated another. It also will hire for Americas sales head.
Amex GBT created a position for president and promoted Philippe Chérèque to the
role, effective immediately. Chérèque has overseen Amex GBT's commercial efforts and product technology for two years as chief commercial and technology officer, and he will add supplier relations, marketing and consulting to those responsibilities.
Meanwhile, a company spokesperson confirmed that chief global sales officer Christine Ourmières-Widener's position has been eliminated. Anderson noted that Amex GBT is restructuring its commercial
group into regional teams, and the spokesperson said the new structure removed the need for a chief global sales officer. However, the regional focus introduced a need for a head of sales for the Americas. Chérèque will oversee the Americas
until the company can fill the new position. Elyes Mrad will continue to lead sales in Europe, the
Middle East and Africa, and David Reimer will continue to head sales in
Asia/Pacific.
