Letters: Taking Us To Task On Taxes
<B> Letters: Taking Us To Task On Taxes</B>
I recently took the opportunity to review the Corporate Travel Index issue (<I>BTN,</I> Feb. 8) and was astonished to find the listing of the top 100 U.S. cities listed by cost.
My astonishment comes at the prices stated for the State of Florida, which I found to be much understated (Imagine--Miami bracketed by Charlotte, N.C., and Richmond, Va.). Then I discovered the reason: No taxes were added to any of the prices!!
Whether you are a business traveler or simply on vacation--one must address the tax issue. You do not perform a good service for your readers by deliberately providing mis-information. How much better to provide accurate information by including the tax structure--so all travelers can compare prices across the board--city by city!
And, if by chance Miami comes out on the high side--so be it!! Maybe Florida will lower its taxes on auto rentals so it can continue to compete! In any case, the taxes are paid and are a part of the "travel experience."
Keep up the good work. BTN is still one of my favorite magazines!
