Participants in the program receive gold credit cards embossed with their corporation's name, and a guidebook with descriptions of participating establishments. Meals are charged to the card at the agreed discount, usually 25 percent off.
The Dining Club's original offering, a card good for 30 days and priced at $15, has been available since last summer. The company has since expanded that offering with a card for repeat travelers, good for a full year, for $100; volume discounts for corporate customers are available.
"The two big draws in San Francisco are the weather and the restaurants," said president David Reeves, "but there are 3,500 restaurants in the city, and the choice can be overwhelming. So we selected 33 of the city's best restaurants-all of which have been top-rated in independent polls for their food and atmosphere."
If the card proves successful in the San Francisco market, the company plans to begin similar programs in New York, Chicago, Atlanta, Dallas, New Orleans and Los Angeles, Reeves said.
