Accor To Focus On Motel 6 Expansion Following Red Roof Sale
Accor has completed the sale of its economy Red Roof Inn brand, and the multinational hotel company now plans to make the development of the Motel 6 brand its single focus in the United States, the company announced today.
A consortium comprised of Citi's Global Special Situations Group and Westbridge Hospitality Fund—a partnership between Westmont Hospitality Group and several Canadian pension fund managers—purchased the Red Roof Inn brand for about $1.3 billion, a deal first announced in April. The brand consists of 341 hotels, totaling 36,683 rooms.
Accor intends to open more than 200 Motel 6 properties in the United States and Canada by 2010, according to Accor CEO Gilles Pèlisson. Currently, the brand operates 928 hotels across North America.
