Marriott International announced Thursday that Brian King will take over as president of the company's Caribbean and Latin America region effective January 2021, succeeding Tim Sheldon, who announced his retirement earlier this week. King has been with the company for 27 years, most recently as global officer, overseeing distribution, revenue strategy, customer engagement centers, the global sales organization, and planning and services.
King will report to Craig Smith, who in May was named group president of international for the company. Smith, a 32-year Marriott veteran, is currently group president of Asia/Pacific, and will assume his role in January 2021 as well. Smith's appointment came after Dave Grissen, group president of the Americas, announced his retirement, effective in the first quarter of 2021.
In May, Marriott also announced it would consolidate its lodging operations under two leaders: Smith, who will oversee all non-North American operations for the company, and Liam Brown, who will take on the role of group president of North America. Brown is currently group president of Europe, the Middle East and Africa.
