IHG Hotels & Resorts will introduce Ruby Hotels, the lifestyle brand it acquired last year, to the United States via a renovated property in Chicago, the company announced Monday.
Set to open in 2027 in the former Inn of Chicago property near the Magnificent Mile, the new 22-story Ruby property is set to have 412 guest rooms along with a rooftop terrace and bar. The Ruby Group will develop the property with Orange County-based Berk Properties and operate the "urban lifestyle brand" hotel under a 30-year franchise agreement with IHG, according to the company.
"This flagship signing underscores the brand's strong growth potential and momentum in key locations across the Americas and around the world," IHG CEO of the Americas Jolyon Bulley said in a statement.
IHG acquired Ruby, then a European brand, in February 2025 for $116 million. The company in September announced its intention to import the brand to the United States. IHG in a statement said it planned "to grow the brand to more than 120 global hotels during the next decade and more than 250 during the next 20 years." As of the third quarter of 2025, 35 Ruby properties were open or in the development pipeline, said IHG.
The former Inn of Chicago once served as part of Choice Hotels International's Ascend Collection, but in recent years served as a migrant shelter for the city before closing for that purpose in 2024.
