The first property in the Atwell Suites brand—which
InterContinental Hotels Group introduced
in May 2019—will open in summer 2021 in Miami, the company announced. The upper-midscale
90-room hotel will be part of a new high-rise, mixed-use building in the
Brickell neighborhood, Miami and South Florida's financial district and home to
many foreign consulates. The project also will include a 140-room Hotel Indigo.
The Atwell all-suites brand was designed with younger guests
(mostly under 35) in mind who often travel for work up for up to six nights,
but the company tested the brand with more traditional business travelers and
road warriors as well as slightly older guests (35 to 54), according to a
company presentation on the brand.
The company is looking for a guest mix of about 60 percent
business traveler to 40 percent leisure, but that will differ depending on the
market, said IHG VP of Avid Hotels and Atwell Suites Karen Gilbride.
The hotel will offer a contactless check-in option, a 24/7
complimentary refreshment bar in the lobby, a market area, a food-and-beverage
area that will serve breakfast—which given the current Covid-19 environment
will include individually packaged items—and offer a bar in the evening with light-bite
options, and plenty of flexible public spaces within a two-floor lobby area,
including a small meeting room.
The rooms offer either a king bed or two queen beds, a two-sided
closet with doors on the room and bathroom sides, a countertop-style desk, an
oversized vanity in the bathroom, and a kitchenette area with a wet bar, under-counter
refrigerator, microwave and coffeemaker.
IHG currently has 20 hotels in the Atwell Suites pipeline,
in markets such as Austin, Charlotte, Denver, Las Vegas, Raleigh and Phoenix.
