Accor has launched a global rollout of its digital room key solution, dubbed Accor Key, with the aim of providing a contactless guest experience at its properties, the company announced.
Guest can receive room keys virtually by downloading Accor's digital key app. Guests then will be given access to rooms, meeting rooms and floors via elevators using their smartphones. Once checked- out, the mobile key automatically will be deactivated.
Accor partnered with STAYmyway to develop the digital key program. The company piloted the program in North America, Europe and Asia, and the rollout will begin in all new Accor hotels opening in 2021, then extend to existing properties. Accor's goal is to have 500 hotels outfitted with Accor Key this year, and at least 50 percent of all rooms across the network within the next five years, according to the company.
According to STAYmyway, the company "through artificial intelligence" validates the guest's identity before activating the key after the hotel confirms their identity via a photo of a personally identifying document, a selfie and a signature confirming the validity of all data.
