PKF Hospitality Research upped its revenue projections for the U.S. hotel industry this year
despite forecasts for continued deterioration
of the overall economy. Average daily rate increases, according to PKF, were
higher than projected for the first half of 2011 but still just slightly over
the rate of inflation. For the full year, PKF projects a 3.3 percent
year-over-year increase in average daily rate, followed by a 4.8 percent
increase in 2012. The firm also projects occupancy will rise 3.9 percent this
year, combining for a 7.3 percent increase in revenue per available room. This
is up slightly from its March forecast of 7.1 percent.
