WestJet is offering travelers to Hawaii access to Covid-19 testing, following a decision by the state to allow visitors from Canada to skip the required 14-day quarantine with negative test results.
The carrier has partnered with laboratory DynaLife to provide testing for $150 Canadian per person. Guests who take the test within 72 hours of travel and have their results prior to boarding can avoid the quarantine requirements.
For December, WestJet has service to both Maui and Honolulu from both Calgary and Vancouver, but the testing for now is available only in the province of Alberta. Earlier this month, Alberta began a trial program where international arrivals at certain border points, including Calgary International Airport, can have a shortened quarantine with a negative test.
So far, more than 2,000 Alberta residents have traveled internationally and returned to Calgary as a part of that program, according to Alberta Minister of Jobs Doug Schweitzer.
Air Canada also announced it would resume service to Hawaii next month with the new exemptions for Canadians. It will begin flights between Vancouver and both Maui and Honolulu on Dec. 17 followed by service between Calgary and Maui on Dec. 18.
