The Canadian federal government and the province of Alberta will pilot a joint initiative that tests international and transborder travelers arriving in Alberta for Covid-19. Starting Nov. 2, international travelers returning to Canada through Calgary International Airport via a non-stop flight initially will be invited to participate. Canadian carriers WestJet and Air Canada welcomed the announcement. In September, Air Canada piloted its own Covid-19 testing program for arriving international travelers in order to ease travel restrictions and quarantine requirements. This month, the carrier reported the results to be "encouraging", with fewer than 1 percent testing positive. "The data has provided the federal government and the government of Alberta with the confidence to move forward with this new testing initiative," Air Canada president and chief executive officer Calin Rovinescu said in a statement.
