Delta Air Lines and Latam Airlines Group jointly will share code on more than 20 international routes between the United States and South America and expand connections for domestic and regional destinations, the companies announced Monday.
Delta is adding its code to 12 international routes operated by Latam between South American and U.S. cities, including Boston, Los Angeles, Miami, New York's John F. Kennedy International Airport and Orlando. The U.S. carrier also is adding its code to six interregional South American routes and to four new domestic destinations in Chile.
Latam is putting its code on eight international routes operated by Delta between South America and the U.S., including from Atlanta and New York's JFK. The agreement enables connections to more than 40 codeshare domestic destinations in South America, the regional network and South American-U.S. international routes operated by Delta and Latam. In addition, it allows access to more than 70 U.S. domestic routes operated by Delta, according to the companies.
The expansion will go into effect in the "next few months."
The new codeshares are a result of the strategic partnership between Delta and Latam announced in September 2019, and recently approved by Chilean antitrust regulators. Latam also is undergoing restructuring under Chapter 11 protection and is expected to present its reorganization plan on Nov. 26.
