and "won't be like the prior-generation Wi-Fi that you find on our U.S. competitors' aircraft," CEO Jeff Smisek said during the carrier's quarterly earnings conference call on Thursday. Smisek said United's inflight Wi-Fi is "modern, global and satellite-based, and as a result will offer speeds consistently faster than what is in the market today. Because
it is satellite-based, our customers will be able to stay in touch virtually wherever they fly on us around the globe—a key differentiator between us and our competitors." He also noted that the carrier would offer a "dynamic pricing model" and "establish a wide array of commercial agreements." The satellite-based Wi-Fi, he said, will be available sometime next month on the first United aircraft equipped with the technology.
