The U.S. Senate approved a Federal Aviation Administration funding extension through January 2012 that earlier this week passed in the U.S. House of Representatives.

The previous extension, signed on Aug. 5 by President Barack Obama following a two-week partial FAA shutdown, would have expired on Sept. 17. The new extension is the 22nd since the previous FAA authorization technically expired in 2007.
