Orlando – Southwest Airlines intends to remain the last major U.S. airline eschewing checked bag fees,
president and CEO Gary Kelly said at the Global Business Travel Association conference. The carrier estimates that adding such fees would cost it a billion dollars in net revenue, factoring in the loss of customers versus the revenue gained. “We feel like we earn more customers by not charging the bag fees, and that brings us more revenue,” Kelly said. “Who wouldn’t want to be the only competitor doing a certain thing?”
