Lufthansa on Wednesday morning expects to cancel only a handful of flights following mass cancellations on Tuesday amid a flight attendants strike.
Numbering into the hundreds, Tuesday's cancellations affected flights to and from Berlin, Frankfurt and Munich airports, according to a notice on the carrier's website posted Tuesday at 2 p.m. Central European Time. The strikes at Berlin Tegel Airport and Frankfurt Airport ended at 1 p.m. and 2 p.m. local time, respectively. Flight attendants were expected to strike until midnight local time at Munich Airport. Looking ahead, Lufthansa cautioned that the Independent Flight Attendants Organization "announces strike actions only at short notice," which "creates additional problems for passengers because it will further limit their ability to make reliable travel plans." The German carrier is waiving all change fees and offering to all ticketed passengers traveling before 11:59 p.m local time on Wednesday, Sept. 5, "alternate flights by Lufthansa, Austrian Airlines, Brussels Airlines or Swiss free of charge."
