JetBlue Airways agreed to purchase from Delta Air Lines eight daily slot pairs at New York LaGuardia and eight at Washington National.
JetBlue will pay $40 million for the National slots and $32 million for the
LaGuardia slots. The Department of Transportation auctioned the takeoff and
landing slots at the capacity-controlled airports as a condition of the slot
trade between Delta and US Airways. WestJet previously announced winning the
bid for a bundle of eight additional daily LaGuardia slot pairs, for which it
will pay $17.6 million, according to DOT. "JetBlue submitted the highest
bids for all three slot bundles, but WestJet was awarded one bundle at
LaGuardia because no carrier was permitted to acquire more than one bundle at
that airport," according to a DOT statement.
