Enterprise Rent-A-Car in September began installing self-service kiosks at the top 50 U.S. airports where it operates,
Enterprise did not disclose when the rollout would be complete. Check-in kiosks, which the company said reduces check-in times by half, already have been adopted by Enterprise Holdings brands Alamo and National. "The new kiosks enable customers to skip the rental counter and initiate both reserved and walk-up transactions with just a valid driver's license and major credit card," according to Enterprise. "They also allow the customer to review rental information, change car class, add additional drivers and purchase such options as GPS navigation units and child car seats." Enterprise Holdings also is upgrading kiosks used at Alamo and National locations with what a spokesman called an "updated interface" and capabilities to transact in additional languages.
CLARIFICATION, Oct. 10: A previous version of this report noted that Enterprise "by early 2013" would complete installation of the airport kiosks, but the rental car firm since clarified that the project would take longer. Enterprise would not commit to a timeline for completing the installations.
