beyond a Jan. 15 deadline set by the U.S. Department of Homeland Security. According to DHS, Connecticut, Delaware, Georgia, Indiana, Iowa, Maryland, Ohio, South Dakota, Tennessee, West Virginia, Wisconsin and Wyoming have met the requirements of the
Real ID Act of 2005 for driver's licenses and identification cards, and the rest have been given a temporary deferment. "These states will have an opportunity to respond with additional information before DHS makes a final determination," according to a DHS statement. DHS expects to publish a schedule by early fall 2013 and begin implementation at a suitable date thereafter." DHS added that it "twice modified the statutory deadline" to provide states more time to comply.
