American, US Airways, JetBlue and, on a "limited" basis, Southwest matched a Delta-led hike on fares typically purchased by business travelers,
according to FareCompare.com. The roundtrip increase of $4 to $10 affects "domestic fares bought within seven days of departure," FareCompare explained, noting that it's Delta's second attempt within a week and the industry's fourth this year. The previous attempts failed to attract competitive matching and subsequently were rolled back. "This increase attempt compared to last week is less aggressive, as Delta this time left unchanged about 40 percent of the cheaper business travel price points which sometimes spill over into leisure travel—a tactic likely intended to entice competitors who last week exhibited no interest whatsoever," according to FareCompare CEO Rick Seaney.
