The U.S. lodging industry in January posted year-over-year declines in average daily rate, occupancy and revenue per available room
, according to Smith Travel Research. ADR fell 5.2 percent to $100.66, occupancy dropped 10.7 percent to 45.9 percent and RevPar decreased 15.3 percent to $46.24. New York City (down 13.1 percent to $199.05), Phoenix (down 12.3 percent to $133.52) and Detroit (down 11.9 percent to 87.22) produced the largest ADR declines among the top 25 U.S. markets.
