Many Europeans soon may be required to provide their fingerprints when entering the United States
, according to published reports. The Associated Pressquoted a senior U.S. Department of Homeland Security official as saying that a pilot at 10 U.S. airports would start later this year and that border checks also could soon include facial and eye-retina scans. After 20 of 25 U.S. mayors told Tourism Economics that the "uncertainty and unpredictability" of U.S. entry requirements has reduced the number of foreign visitors, Travel Business Roundtable chairman Jonathan Tisch said "overseas visitors spend more time and more money in our country than do domestic travelers, and our visa and entry policies are driving them away."
