WHAT THE COMPANY SAYS
Amadeus Cytric is an integrated online booking tool and expense management system available on the web, mobile and in Microsoft Teams. It offers global travel content, backed by partnerships with travel providers across the industry.
The company is building an AI-powered platform to make corporate travel and expense management simple and personalized, while being powerful enough to handle the complexity of global business. The company says it is reimagining travel and expense around how people work today with conversation-first AI that combines chat with visual workflow to support speed, control and compliance.
Air Content Strategy
All major global distribution systems, plus low-cost carrier and Vendor Direct Access connections. VDAs connect to providers’ computer reservation system to seamlessly display content. Approximately 100 LCCs are available via a third-party content aggregator (Travelfusion), plus VDAs to a number of carriers. All sources are delivered through a uniform display in Cytric.
Content Strategy
One of the first providers to receive dual IATA NDC certification as an aggregator and IT provider. Cytric’s mission is to build the largest unbiased price-comparison platform globally offering transparency, flexibility and savings on bookings that TMCs can service. In addition to GDS content, Cytric’s Vendor Direct Access and Amadeus Hotel Multi-source content offers hotel content from a number of aggregators and also integrates with leading travel management company proprietary hotel inventories.
Air & NDC: NDC is available via GDS and third parties like Travelfusion, as well as via direct connects with suppliers. Most recently, the platform has enabled Sabre NDC, with content coming from American Airlines, United and Qanta in the first phase.
Hotel: GDS (Amadeus, Sabre and Travelport), Hotel aggregator (Booking.com, Corporate Rates Club (CRC), CDS, CTM Hotels, ehotel, HCorpo, HRS and Meetago – MICE), Direct connects (Premier Inn)
Rail: Deutsche Bahn, SNCF, NS International, Evolvi, Trainline, SNCB, SJ, Thalys, Amtrak and Renfe, Eurostar, Iryo, SBB, Swedish Rail. Rail travel options are comparable alongside air in a fully unified display.
Car: Full GDS car content plus content from Avis Budget, Enterprise, Europcar, Hertz, and Sixt. Transfer providers such as Flygtaxi, Groundspan, IVCardo, Talixo, Taxibokning, Drivania, Transferz, supershuttle, LeCab.
Technology & Innovation Roadmap
Cytric continues to expand and simplify access to air and rail content, including improved rail shopping in a single, unified display, easier post-ticketing flight changes through tools such as the Ticket Changer Shopper, and greater automation around disruptions and refunds, including integrations like automated Deutsche Bahn refunds.
Sustainability is increasingly embedded into the booking experience, with visibility into options such as Sustainable Aviation Fuel fares and carbon-related insights.
On the expense side, ongoing refinements improve clarity and usability, including more intuitive receipt breakdowns and smoother expense capture.
Approach to AI
Amadeus Cytric continues to embed AI across Cytric Easy and Cytric Expense to move toward a ‘zero touch’ travel and expense journey. The interface is evolving to combine a natural language, conversational assistant with familiar visual workflows.
Cytric AI Assistant leverages Microsoft technologies, including GPT models from Azure Open AI Service Microsoft 365. The chatbot proposes the most appropriate travel or itinerary options. It also assists with journey elements from planning, booking and pre-departure, through the trip and post-trip.
Cytric Easy AI assistant takes keystroke queries as well as Microsoft Teams voice recognition. Within Teams, users search flights and hotels using natural language and results can be customized by priority (air: cheapest, greenest, fastest / hotel: cheapest, nearest, premium. The assistant proposes trip options together with a link for the traveler to complete the booking.
Amadeus plans to expand functionality to answer queries about T&E policy and to introduce search and booking options for car rentals, transfers, and rail. Users soon will be able to cancel or modify bookings directly.
Key Technology Differentiators
Amadeus Cytric for Microsoft Teams has always been fully cloud-native. As criticality of cloud has increased, the company reengineered all Cytric components including the Cytric Easy web and mobile applications to migrate to Microsoft Azure. The process has sped up feature launches, while taking advantage of new generative AI tools such as GitHub for developers and Copilot to accelerate the pace of transformation and improve user experience.
Cytric offers deep native integration into Microsoft Teams in a truly open, partner-agnostic architecture—so corporations keep full freedom over their TMC, content and expense stack. The Teams integration has unlocked features like Close Collaborators that suggests colleague connections at the destination office site. Taxi or car service sharing across colleagues with similar air or train arrival times. Share/Match My Trip that allows colleagues in a Teams chat to duplicate and book itineraries and Event Manager which manages travel, agendas, documents, logistics in a dedicated Teams chat and enables bookings and key event details.
Personalization & Policy
With Cytric, custom policies, approval flows, and business logic can be set up in way that is tailored to travelers, markets, and business strategy. Cytric consolidates travel and expense data so performance can be tracked from end to end. Clear dashboards make it easy to spot out-of-policy bookings and uncover the source, while powerful analytics tools enable spend tracking by supplier, the adoption of negotiated rates to be seen, and enable insights to optimize corporate travel strategy.
WHAT CONSULTANTS SAY
Consultants described Cytric as a safe, mature and dependable choice with broad global TMC support. Its stability and reach make it viable across many markets.
Its history and functionality make it a stronger contender in Europe, particularly for rail. North American content was characterized as adequate rather than a selling point.
Some consultants said the product is showing its age and has become less flexible since Amadeus acquired it, with greater GDS dependence and less enthusiasm for direct supplier connections. They also said performance can suffer on non-Amadeus GDSs, while fees for non-GDS content can raise costs.
Its fare-rule display, used with Amadeus mini-rules, was praised as “very clear and easy to follow,” and consultants also cited good sustainability reporting.
Microsoft integration remains Cytric’s clearest differentiator. The Microsoft 365 and Teams embed can drive adoption with little training among employees already working in Teams, although the standalone experience was called “unremarkable.” Competitors also are competitors are catching up in terms of enterprise integrations.
For Microsoft-based corporations, consultants saw a strong commercial case: Cytric can be purchased through Azure Marketplace and applied toward a Microsoft Azure Consumption Commitment rather than treated as incremental spend.
A less visible strength is accessibility, including an independent audit of accessibility reports.
Strategically, Cytric presents itself as an independent global OBT without an exclusive TMC alliance. Despite its travel-and-expense positioning, consultants considered the expense functionality fairly basic and best suited to buyers seeking an entry-level tool.
WHAT BUYERS SAY
At least one buyer chose Cytric to standardize globally around one travel technology, TMC and GDS, citing scalability and lower costs than some comparable booking tool options. There is consensus that it works better in Europe than in North America.
Traveler experience remains mixed. Buyers said the interface needed refreshing “to cater to the Gen Zs and Gen Alphas.” It works well for simple point-to-point trips, but travelers still turn to agents for complex itineraries.
Cytric Easy’s Microsoft Teams integration earned praise, particularly for letting colleagues share and replicate itineraries, improving convenience and cost control. However, data-privacy requirements can limit use across jurisdictions including Austria, Germany and Switzerland, and the tool does not support pre-trip authorization.
Complex policy configuration is another weakness. One buyer said years of customized GetThere policies could not be replicated because Cytric’s community-product model favors developments available to all customers over client-specific enhancements.
Buyers generally rated air content positively, including U.S. low-cost carriers and Travelfusion integrations. Yet one disputed equating Vendor Direct Access with direct connect NDC, Cytric also may not recognize airline loyalty status, forcing travelers to visit airline sites for benefits such as seats or baggage.
Sustainability reporting from Travalyst was described as “really nice,” although buyers wanted stronger native reporting.
Amadeus won respect for a clear multiyear roadmap and customer-oriented servicing, but customized development got lower marks. Enhancements are prioritized by broad customer impact.
