The U.S. Transportation Security Administration has cleared Verified Identity Pass to resume enrollments in its Registered Traveler program, following last week's loss and subsequent recovery of a company laptop computer containing enrollment information.
TSA last night said the Clear program operator "has met program encryption standards for enrollment computers and may resume Registered Traveler enrollment immediately."
After the laptop went missing, TSA instructed Clear to undergo an independent audit to confirm compliance with security measures
(BTNonline, August 5). TSA this week said it would conduct its own random audits of the provider's various airport operations "to further ensure compliance." Meanwhile, TSA has requested from Verified Identity Pass "a comprehensive report detailing the status of all security features associated with the Clear program and to conduct a new and complete annual audit consistent with program standards."
TSA noted that it also is conducting "a broad review" of other suppliers in the national Registered Traveler program to ensure compliance with data security measures.
