Low-cost carrier Wizz Air is set to become Europe's first airline to charge for carry-on luggage.
The carrier began a pilot on its London Luton-Katowice, Poland service, charging €10 for items that cannot fit under passenger seats. Wizz Air, which flies 220 routes from Central and Eastern Europe, claimed the new fee is intended to "enhance on-time performance and improve customer experience during boarding." Checked bags cost €15 to €30 per item. U.S. carriers Spirit Airlines and Allegiant Air also impose carry-on bag fees.
