On Sept. 23, Amtrak will begin nonstop Acela service between New York Penn Station and Washington, D.C.'s Union Station. Initially, the service will operate only on weekdays. One train will depart New York at 6:35 a.m. and another will depart D.C. at 4:30 p.m. Amtrak is considering an expansion of the service in the future. The nonstop trip will take two hours and 35 minutes; Acela trips with stops take about three hours to travel between the two cities. Tickets for the new service are already on sale.
