China Eastern Airlines has agreed to buy 25 Airbus A330neo aircraft, with deliveries to begin in 2029, according to a filing by the carrier with the Shanghai Stock Exchange.
The value of the deal, signed on June 26, is approximately $9.4 billion, "based on the latest price catalog provided by Airbus SAS in January 2025," according to the filing.
Reasons for the purchase include a "notable reduction in fuel consumption per seat compared with the previous-generation models" and the ability to help the carrier optimize its fleet structure and route network. The aircraft will be "mainly used to continuously increase intercontinental destinations at Shanghai Pudong Airport."
