JetBlue has won an auction for the defunct Spirit Airlines' 22 takeoff and landing slots at New York's LaGuardia Airport, according to a Friday court filing.
The New York-based carrier bid $58.5 million for the slots; Frontier Airlines is the alternate bidder, at $57.5 million, and would take the slots should the court not approve the JetBlue transaction or if JetBlue fails to complete the transaction in accordance with the bidding procedures, according to the filing. A hearing to consider the approval of the transfer to JetBlue is scheduled for July 22.
JetBlue did not immediately respond to a request for comment, however, the carrier in an internal note viewed by CNBC said that it wanted to move to Terminal A at LaGuardia, and that any expansion won't happen until 2027.
Spirit ceased operations on May 2 and is liquidating its assets.
