Global air travel demand rose 8 percent year over year in
November, the fastest growth rate in five months, including October's 7.2
percent increase, according to the International Air Transport Association. Global
capacity increased 6.3 percent, and global load factor rose 1.2 percent to 80.2
percent.
International air travel demand grew 8.1 percent worldwide. While
all regions showed growth, Asia/Pacific traffic grew the most for the fifth
consecutive month. The Middle East had the lowest. Domestic air travel demand
rose 7.8 percent worldwide year over year, and domestic capacity grew 5.9
percent, bringing load factor grew to 83.6 percent.
"The airline industry is in a good place entering 2018.
November's strong demand gives the industry momentum. The number of unique
city-pair connections now tops 20,000. Passengers not only have more travel
choices than ever, the cost of travel in real terms has never been cheaper,"
said IATA director general and CEO Alexandre de Juniac. "Challenges,
however, remain. Security threats continue. Infrastructure issues persist. Fees
and charges are a growing part of the cost base," he said.
