Delta Air Lines is suspending service at 10 U.S. airports as it consolidates operations in major markets until at least September.
Delta has cut its second-quarter capacity 85 percent, including an 80 percent cut in domestic capacity. The carrier said suspending operations at the airports will allow more employees to stay home and avoid Covid-19 exposure. Those employees will have pay protection via the federal Covid-19 stimulus package through Sept. 30.
Suspended airports include:
- Chicago Midway, with services consolidated to Chicago O'Hare
- Oakland, with service consolidated to San Francisco
- Hollywood Burbank and Long Beach, with service consolidated to Los Angeles
- T.F. Green and Manchester Boston Regional, with service consolidated to Boston Logan
- Westchester County, with service consolidated to New York's LaGuardia Airport
- Stewart, with service consolidated to New York's Kennedy Airport
- Akron-Canton, with service consolidated to Cleveland
- Newport News/Williamsburg, with service consolidated to Norfolk
Delta's request to the U.S. Department of Transportation to suspend service at nine smaller airports still is under review, according to the carrier. Michigan travel groups have filed comments objecting in particular to its proposal to suspend service to Lansing's Capital Region International Airport.
