The June U.S. passenger flight cancellation rate decreased for a second consecutive month to 1.7 percent compared with 1.8 percent in June 2025, according to the latest U.S. Department of Transportation Air Travel Consumer Report. The month-over-month rate, however, increased from 0.9 percent in May.
U.S. carriers in June operated about 660,300 flights, down from the 662,300 operated in June 2025.
Domestic carriers with the lowest June cancellation rates were Allegiant Air (0.5 percent), Southwest Airlines (0.6 percent) and Alaska Airlines network (0.8 percent). Networks include branded codeshare partners.
Airlines with the highest June cancellation rates were American Airlines network (3.4 percent), Frontier Airlines (2.0 percent) and JetBlue (1.5 percent).
In June, U.S. carriers handled about 41.6 million bags for a mishandled baggage rate of 0.50 percent, lower than the 0.57 percent reported in June 2025, but higher than the 0.42 percent reported in May 2026.
The number of complaints filed in June increased to 6,803 from 6,448 filed in May. About 65 percent were for U.S. carriers, 30 percent for foreign carriers and about 5 percent for travel agencies. The subcategories with the most complaints were refunds (1,882), flight schedule (1,394) and baggage (954).
