Update, Friday, Oct. 5, 2018, 5:20 p.m. Eastern: President Donald Trump has signed the bill into law.
The Senate has passed, by a vote of 93 to 6, an FAA reauthorization bill that had passed the House last week. The bill now awaits President Donald Trump's signature. The five-year authorization is the first of its length of time since the '80s. The FAA previously was authorized to operate from 2012 to 2015 and since has been running on extensions. The bill that passed Congress today funds the Next Generation Air Transportation modernization initiative and the TSA and provides for some new regulations such as seat sizes and bumping of passengers already aboard the flight.
