American Airlines and JetBlue will add new destinations and increase frequencies on existing routes in New York and Boston, some as part of their summer service, expanding the airlines' Northeast Alliance, the carriers announced Thursday.
Nine new routes are schedule to go on sale this week across both airlines in New York and Boston. At New York's John F. Kennedy Airport, the carriers will offer up to 300 daily departures, with JetBlue operating 195 flights. In addition to JetBlue's new JFK-Vancouver service, the airline will add frequencies to destinations including Atlanta, Detroit, Minneapolis-St. Paul, and Raleigh-Durham.
At New York's LaGuardia Airport, the carriers will offer nearly 200 daily departures, including JetBlue's new Portland, Maine, service. The airline will add frequencies on destinations including Boston, Charleston, S.C., Jacksonville, Fla., Nashville, New Orleans, Orlando, Tampa and Savannah, Ga. American has added new routes to Houston, Kansas City, Mo., Oklahoma City and Omaha.
The carriers also announced from Boston six new U.S. domestic routes and two new options to Canada, enabling them to serve 46 of the top 50 U.S. domestic mainland markets from the city, according to the airlines, which added that in the summer, they will offer more than 200 daily departures from Boston, with JetBlue operating more than 150.
Tickets are scheduled to go on sale beginning Dec. 20. Further, American announced new nonstop service operated on Embraer E175 aircraft between Boston and Louisville, Memphis, Pensacola, Traverse City, and Halifax, Nova Scotia. JetBlue added service to Vancouver and Asheville, N.C., and will add frequencies to Washington Reagan National Airport, and resume flights to Baltimore/Washington International Airport starting June 9.
The airlines are now codesharing on 185 routes—115 operated by American and 70 operated by JetBlue. In addition, as part of the redevelopment project at LaGuardia, American has moved operations to the new Terminal B starting today. JetBlue expects to fully operate out of Terminal B by summer.
