Three years after its acquisition of Deem, Travelport has sold the corporate travel management platform to software management group Juniper Group for an undisclosed amount, the travel technology company announced on Wednesday.
Travelport acquired Deem from Enterprise Holdings in 2023, also for an undisclosed amount, with plans to make it a "fully integrated corporate tool" with the Travelport platform, the company said at the time. Over the span of its ownership, Travelport said it had achieved that "deep integration with Travelport Plus" while maintaining its multi-global distribution system capabilities. That "has created opportunities to better partner with corporations and [travel management companies] that utilize Deem with the Travelport Plus platform," Deem president Kyle Moore said in a statement.
At the time of the acquisition, Travelport was the only one of the three major GDSs that did not own its own booking tool, with Sabre owning GetThere and Amadeus owning the Cytric platform. Since then, however, Sabre has sold GetThere to Serko, and Travelport CEO John Mangelaars told BTN sister publication The Beat in April, shortly after taking over the CEO position, that the company was considering divesting Deem.
"The time is right for Deem to be part of an organization where it is a core strategic focus, and Juniper Group is exactly that," Mangelaars said in a statement. "We look forward to continuing to work closely with the Deem team as a preferred partner, and we're confident Deem's customers are in good hands."
As a part of the Juniper Group, which is an operating group of Constellation Software, Deem will continue as an independent entity with its current leadership team remaining intact. Juniper Travel Technology, a unit within the group that specializes in travel booking and connectivity technology, sponsored the acquisition.
Constellation beginning in 2025 has amassed a 12.7 percent stake in Sabre, and Sabre in March named Damian McKay, CEO of Constellation's Vela Software division, to its board of directors.
The Juniper Group on Tuesday announced it had acquired travel distribution technology provider DerbySoft, which provides direct connections between hotels and TMCs.
