Alipay has integrated ridehailing services into its app through ground transportation aggregator Splyt, a U.K. start-up. Originally a digital payment wallet, China's Alipay has evolved into a mobile commerce and personal admin platform with 1 billion users. Splyt aggregates ridehailing services in 2,000 cities, including in North America, but the rollout with Alipay is starting in the U.K., United Arab Emirates and Southeast Asia. "Customers don't want 100 different apps," said Alipay director of crossborder business development Kiki Wu. "This mini program makes it possible to search, book and pay for taxi rides in our users' native currency."
