Delays and cancellations on U.S. carriers increased but baggage handling improved year over year in October, according to the U.S. Department of Transportation. Reporting carriers were on time 85.5 percent of the time in October, down from 87 percent a year prior but steady compared with the previous month's performance. Carriers canceled 1 percent of flights in October, up from 0.3 percent in September and 0.5 percent in October 2015. Mishandled baggage reports for the month totaled 2.06 per 1,000 passengers, better than the previous month's rate of 2.23 and the rate of 2.45 a year prior, the DOT reported.
