KLM, Qantas, Japan Airlines, Alaska Airlines, Iberia,
Singapore Airlines, ANA and Delta were among the most on-time carriers of 2016,
according to OAG's annual Punctuality League report.
Hawaiian Airlines had the highest on-time rate, getting 89.9
percent of its flights to the gate within 15 minutes of their scheduled times
last year, according to the report. Among the 20 most punctual carriers, Delta is
by far the largest. OAG labeled getting 84.3 percent of its flights to their
gates on time "a remarkable achievement." Delta partner KLM's on-time
arrival rate of 87.9 percent made it Europe's most on-time carrier and the
third-highest globally.
Both of Japan's major carriers were among the top 20, and in
terms of major airports, Tokyo Haneda had the highest on-time arrival rate,
85.5 percent. More than half of the 20 most punctual major airports were in the
United States: Detroit, Atlanta, Minneapolis, Seattle, Phoenix, Charlotte,
Houston's George Bush Intercontinental, Denver, Dallas/Fort Worth
International, Orlando and Las Vegas.
OAG
bases its report on 54 million flight records, including canceled flights.
Those records cover the top 200 carriers as measured by available seat
kilometers. The report includes only those carriers and airports for which OAG
has data on at least 80 percent of scheduled flights.
